ABA Therapy

ABA stands for Applied Behavior Analysis. It is frequently recommended as an interventional support for autistic individuals.

There has been controversy surrounding ABA over the years, so my recommendation is for the parent to educate themselves about local ABA providers and to make an informed decision whether it is best to proceed with ABA interventions for their child.

ABA services are not all the same. Some agencies provide services in the child’s home, in schools or within an ABA specific facility. Your insurance may cover ABA services, it’s important to contact your insurance provider for specific details. As with many therapy services, there may be a lengthy waitlist, so it’s important to consider getting on waitlists to assure timely supports.

Potential benefits of ABA:

  • improved communication skills

  • focus and attention

  • social skills

  • confidence and independence

  • reduction in behaviors
